John Mayer Using the U5

Singer/songwriter/guitarist John Mayer and his bass player David LaBruyere are both using Avalon U5 direct boxes for guitar and bass as an integral part of their sound both live and in the studio.

The March/April 2003 issue of Performing Songwriter Magazine includes an interview with John Mayer who talks about his gear:

"... I'm a big fan of Avalon U5 direct boxes. My bass player used to bring one to sessions when we first started playing together, and it just made the bass sound awesome. It's an amazing piece of gear. People think it's a tube box, but it's not - it's a solid state preamp. The Avalon has a very round sound."
